Mitt Romney, 2012 Republican Party presidential nominee, former governor of Massachusetts and chief executive officer of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics is speaking at Utah Valley University’s 74th commencement on April 30.  Romney will also receive an honorary doctoral degree.

“He was at the top of our wish list coming into the school year, and we were elated when he accepted our invitation earlier last fall,” said Tyler Brklacich, UVUSA president.

Former Utah Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives Becky Lockhart will receive a posthumous honorary doctoral degree for her work on UVU’s behalf at the state capitol. Her husband, Stan, will accept the degree. Pamela J. Atkinson, founding member and former chair of the UVU National Presidential Advisory Board, will also receive an honorary doctoral degree.

“I can’t imagine more deserving individuals to receive honorary degrees,” said Holland.” Their contributions to their communities reflect the qualities we encourage our students to learn and practice in their own lives.”

Commencement will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the UCCU Center in Orem on April 30.
