Rhaiah Spooner-Knight posted her second game of 20 or more points for the Wolverines this season on Thursday night where the Utah Valley University women’s basketball team fell to the Utah State Aggies in Logan, Utah 79-61.

“We need to take control of the parts of the game we can control,” head coach Cathy Nixon said. “The main focus for us, is to not worry about who we are playing and focus. Our young team will get some experience and we can translate that into a good game against Weber on Saturday.”

If you’re a basketball fan, you know it is a game of offensive runs and defensive stops. UVU was able to go on a quick 8-4 run as the game began but the Aggies countered with a 9-0 run of their own. The Wolverines tied the game at 25 a piece with about eight minutes to go in the first half, USU never trailed again with a score of 39-34 at the break.

As the second half started, the Aggies continued to stretch out their lead by going on a 15-2 run which the Wolverines couldn’t bounce back from. With about six minutes remaining USU had extended their lead to 23 points. That lead was cut to 14 with a couple minutes left but the Wolverines just couldn’t seem to stop turning the ball over. The Aggies scored 25 points off of the Wolverines’ 25 turnovers.

Spooner-Knight finished with a season high 21 points and also had five rebounds. Sam Loggins had seven points and seven rebounds on the night while Karlee Norris continued to rebound the ball well with 11.

The Wolverines will be playing back at the UCCU center on Saturday Nov. 22 at 4:00pm where they’ll take on the visiting Weber State Wildcats.
