UVU women’s soccer saw its season come to an end as it suffered a 1-0 loss to University of Missouri-Kansas City in the WAC tournament semifinals Friday night at Championship Field in Seattle.

Kansas City mid-fielder Taylor Andrzejewski scored the deciding lone goal in the match to lead her team to victory. In the 54th minute Andrejewski received the pass on a cross from Kara Priest and put the ball in from in front of the box.

After playing an overtime match the night before the lady Wolverines fought hard to come back but such a short amount of rest proved to be too much to overcome a well-rested Kansas City team coming off a first-round bye.

“I’m very proud of this team and what they accomplished this season,” said UVU head coach Brent Anderson. “They wore their heart on their sleeve tonight and put everything they had into the match. It is always difficult to play back-to-back matches like we did and you could see they were willing but the energy was dropping as the game wore on.”

The Kangaroos outshot the lady Wolverines to finish the night with a 9-3 shot on goal advantage.

UVU keeper Jessica Duffin kept her team in the match as she added another outstanding performance to her season with a total of 8 saves on the night, including a phenomenal save made on a penalty kick taken by Kansas City.

Seniors Lexi Robison, Kim Stratford and McKell Salmon each played their final minutes of soccer for the lady Wolverines to end their college careers.

“I have to say how privileged I am to have been able to work with this team this season,” said Coach Anderson. “We had three amazing seniors and they can be very proud of their contributions to this team and our program.”

UVU finishes the season with a 13-7-2 overall record with the school’s single season women’s soccer record for most wins and its first ever WAC tournament win.

The lady Wolverines also end the season with the record for the most shutouts in a single season with nine on the year.
