UVU Women’s Soccer Defeats Kansas City

UVU women’s soccer delivered its ninth shutout victory of the season as it defeated the University of Missouri-Kansas City by a score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Clyde Field. The match marks the first loss in WAC play for Kansas City.
The lady Wolverines outperformed their opponent on the offensive end as they took over early in the game to put themselves up 2-0 in the first half. They ended the match with 5 shots on goal for the day compared to only 1 for Kansas City.
UVU mid-fielder Libby Weber put her team ahead for good with her goal as she hit the ball off her chest on a corner kick after just 4 minutes of play. Tori Smith gave the team a 2 goal lead in the 35th minute when she received the pass from Kalli Suesue inside the box and curved the ball past Kansas City keeper Nin Tzianos.
“A great team effort,” said head coach Brent Anderson. “I’m very proud of the girls for the way they performed today.”
Led by its captain Lexi Robison, UVU’s defensive unit put forth another dominant effort as it earned its season-high tying streak of four consecutive shutouts. The 1 shot on goal from Kansas City is only the second shot on goal allowed in the past two matches by UVU.
UVU women’s soccer improves to 12-5-2 on the regular season. The team’s record in WAC play moves to 7-2-0.
UVU next plays conference foe Seattle in its final home game of the regular season Saturday November 1 at 12 p.m. MT.
