Create a workplace you love

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Homework. It’s a must, but it can be a daunting task. You know you have to do it but you don’t want to, and even when you try you can’t find a comfortable place where you can concentrate.

The bed makes you switch into weird positions every three minutes, your desk is too hard to sit still at, or your family room is taken over by others watching TV. In the past I have used my desk as nothing more than a shelf to put stuff on rather than as my workspace.

It didn’t motivate me to get my work done. It made me dread it. However, there are little things that you can do to make your designated workspace an inspiring place to work.

CREATE AN INSPIRATIONAL BOARD

Whether it’s a DIY board or one you got at the store, the part of this board that will be unique is what you put on it.

Random loose papers have a place to be hung. Print or cut out from magazines visuals for your goals and aspirations. Write down a schedule you would like to adhere to and/or all the steps you are going to take towards your goals. Make it fun and personal, catered to reminding you that you have a lot of rewards ahead of you if you just keep going.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

A dark and broody place will make you want to go to sleep. Dark equals nighttime. Add bright colors to your workspace, even in accessories. Have colorful office supplies, like a bright pink stapler or drawers to keep everything always happy. Also, make sure you have plenty of light that hits your workspace.

Be aware, if the light in the room is behind you, your shadow will make the desk dark when you are working. Add a lamp to your desk that will give you more of a wake-up every time you are working.

KEEP IT CLEAN

This place is your brain’s sanctuary. It is where brilliant ideas come and are written and maybe even turned in online. It’s a place that needs to always feel like it is stress-free while you are stressing on the task you are trying to complete. Make sure you don’t end up with a million papers or trash stacked on your desk. Be sure you take the time to clean up the place where your intelligence shines before you leave it.

BRAIN FOOD

Keep healthy snacks that boost brain power in one of your desk drawers or in a box. Dark chocolate, almonds and water are all essential for a healthy brain and give you something to look forward to after every assignment you finish. It is a great way to reward yourself and give you a reason to go back and work again.

Whatever duties you are responsible for, you should have a place where you can focus on only them. It is important to have a place where you can feel comfortable and not feel like you are going to fall asleep or are bored.

Use these tips to inspire yourself to be a harder worker and a better student.
