Women’s Soccer Finishes Way Sweep with Shutout

Utah Valley’s women’s soccer team head back home victorious on Sunday after shutting out New Mexico State. The 1-0 match took place at NMSU Soccer Athletic Complex and marks UVU’s seventh shutout of the season.

The win improves the Wolverines to 10-5-2 overall on the season and ups their WAC mark to 5-2-0. The Aggies fell to 3-14-0 overall and 2-5-0 in league action. UVU now can boast that they have won five of their last six games to top it off.

Junior midfielder, Jamie Brown, scored the only and subsequent winning goal of the game at the 12:14 mark. Brown fired the shot from outside the box after an assist from junior forward Kali Stubbs. The ball was able to slip past NMSU’s keeper, Taylor Rice, to find its way to the back of the net.

Star keeper for the Wolverines, Jessica Duffin, recorded her WAC-best seventh shutout in goal. Duffin faced eight shots in the match and registered four saves. McKell Salmon led UVU’s offense with a match-high four shots, including one on goal. Utah Valley out-shot New Mexico State 10-8 for the day, including a 6-4 advantage in the second half.

The lady Wolverines with wrap up regular season play with three-straight home matches. The first of which will take place on Friday, October 24 at 7:00p.m. MT. The team will be facing off against Chicago State.
