Volleyball Wraps up Homestand with a Win

Concluding their six-match homestand the Utah Valley volleyball team defeated Texas-Pan American in straight sets. The final set scores of the match were 25-17 ,25-12, 25-20. The Saturday afternoon game also marked head coach Sam Atoa’s 200th career victory as a NCAA Division 1 women’s volleyball coach.

The Wolverines took an imposing 16-7 advantage in the first set thanks to a 6-0 run. UVU held the lead from there as they went on to take the opening frame by eight points. The Broncs couldn’t keep up as they were out hit .324 to .050 in the set.

Texas-Pan American took an other hard hit as UVU took an other swift lead in the second. The home team opened the set with a 15-5 advantage following a Bronc service error. The Wolverines stretched their lead to as many as 13 later in the set as they ended it with that devastating advantage.

The Broncs battled hard in the third and final set of the match as they brought themselves with in three at 17-14. UVU maintained their strong advantage down the stretch however. The mighty Wolverines put the set and the game away with a Macky Treanor kill and a 5-point advantage.

With this victory, Utah Valley finishes their six-match homestand with a 4-2 record. The win also marks the Wolverines’ 24th all-time victory over the Texas-Pan American Broncs. The match is not only a special victory for the ladies on the team but for their head coach. In 12 Division 1 seasons, Atoa is now 200-138 and also 338-169 overall for his career of 16 years at Utah Valley.

Now the lady Wolverines will head to the Midwest next week to take on Missouri-Kansas City. The match will take place on Thursday, October 9th at 6:00p.m. MT.
