Women’s Soccer is Edged out of WAC Opener

In the Wester Athletic Conference opener on Sunday the Wolverines fall to Seattle University. The final score of 1-2 coming about in the second half after a UVU first half lead.

The first and only goal for the Wolverines happened in the 40th minute. Forward Sheridan Fox stuck a long shot from the right side of the box. The ball  was aided to its placement of just inside the left post with assistance from defender Sara Ranck as she forwarded the ball to Fox.

Utah Valley edged Seattle U in shots during the first half of play 7-6, but dropped the advantage in the second as SU out-shot the Wolverines 11-3. The Wolverines managed to out shine the Redhawks in defense throughout the whole game as keeper Jessica Duffin took a peppering. With four saves on 17 shots and only allowing two past her, Duffin proved yet again that she is a force to be reckoned with.

The Redhawks tied the game in the 47th minute after a ball bounced around near the box and found Taylor Ritzman’s foot. In all the jumble of feet and ricocheting ball it was SU’s Madaline Racine who managed to pass the ball to teammate Ritzman in order for the redirection and subsequent goal.

The game winning goal for SU happened in the 78th minute when Stephanie Spiekerman found the back of the net for her fist career goal. This memorable shot for the Redhawks was assisted by teammate Stephine Verdoia.

The lady Wolverines next match is an other one on the road as the face off against Backfield The game takes place on Friday, October 3rd at  8:00p.m. MT.
