The Utah Valley University Wolverines women’s soccer team played a dominant 3-0 game against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Friday night.

The Cowgirls now are 0-4-0 on the road after they were clearly dominated by the Wolverines on both ends of the field. UVU is now 3-0-1 on their home field and played the best they have all season.

Th fans tonight during the first half were not existent or disruptive. Approximately 80 fans showed up to support the team and a great majority of them were either discussing what they are going to do over the weekend and one fan on the front row even was exercising while watching the game. The fans started to show up at halftime and started to cheer loudly during the second half. Perhaps fans see women’s soccer games as a social event rather than the competitive athletic event that should have their attention.

Last Friday the Wolverines beat the Baylor Bears by a score of 2-1 by outsmarting and outworking their opponents and the same was true of the game tonight. The ending score of 3-0 does not accurately display just how dominant the Wolverines were Friday night, particularly offensively. While the Cowgirls were able to defend the Wolverines on several possessions throughout the first half, during the second half they struggled to not let UVU score on every possession they brought near the goal.

The most exciting play of the night was when Kasandra Anderson attempted to score with a header and sent the ball towards the goal. However, Anderson was off by a couple of inches and the ball bounced out. Luckily Kali Stubbs was able to rebound the ball and put it into the goal putting the Wolverines up 2-0 at the start of the second half.

Another exciting play was when Sara Callister was blocked by the Cowgirl’s goalie, Georgian Rowntree. Callister was able to get the ball back due to Rowntree not quickly grabbing the ball when it was blocked.  Callister used her repossession to score a goal and put UVU up 3-0 with 6 minutes remaining in the game.

The next game for the lady Wolverines is Monday at 7:30p.m. MT on Clyde Field where they face off against Southern Utah.
