In the first ever meeting of Utah Valley University and Creighton University in women’s volleyball the Wolverines lose for the second time today. The Bluejays took the contest in consecutive sets of 25-23, 25-14, 25-20.

UVU hit the court stronger after their loss to Kansas earlier this afternoon. Pushing Creighton to the limit. Sophomore Macky Treanor lead the spurt of four straight points with an ace, bringing the score to 16-14 Bluejays. A block assist later in the set from Kalani Norris and Madison Wolford tied the score at 19-all.  UVU then took their first lead in the game at 20-19 after a Creighton attack error. CU earned a set point when Leah McNary put down a kill over the Wolverine block and closed out on a UVU attack error.

After seeing no stuffs in the first set, the lady Bluejays’ vaunted blocking brigade showed up and stayed in the second frame. Never letting up Creighton quickly doubled up the Wolverines early and extended their advantage to 22-9. UVU didn’t fall apart as they scored five more points including a pair of aces from sophomore Kelcee Munk. No matter how hard UVU tried they couldn’t rally back against CU as Melanie Jereb made a back-row kill to end the set.

The Wolverines looked like they would make a come back in the third set by taking an early 13-12 advantage. Creighton bounced back with five unanswered points, three of which belonged to Marysa Wilkinson via three kills. From there the Bluejays maintained the lead and won the set.

The Kansas Invitational continues for the lady Wolverines Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. MT. They will be facing off against Lipscomb of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
