Competition winners of the Choreography Dance Project were awarded scholarships for their original pieces as performed by the Utah Regional Ballet on Jan. 28 at UVU.

William Domingues received the first place award of $1,000 in the Professional Division for his piece “Jiyra Musty”.  Shayla Bott took second place in the Professional Division receiving a $500 award and Elizabeth Stott took first place in the Pre-professional Division also receiving $500.

The scholarship awards were funded through the Orem City CARE grant which serves cultural arts programs as well as recreational activities for the community, according to Councilman Mark Seastrand who announced the winners.

The awards are meant to “further [the choreographers] education and expand their careers and experience in choreography,” said Jacqueline Colledge, artistic director of the Utah Regional Ballet.
