Disappointment at Miss America for Danica Olsen

Reading Time: < 1 minute

After months of preparation and practice, former Miss UVU and current Miss Utah Danica Olsen went home without the coveted Miss America crown on Saturday, Jan. 14. Despite a strong showing during the preliminary rounds, winning the Lifestyle and Fitness award for her group, Olsen failed to make the semi finals during the last evening of the pageant. She and 36 other women were eliminated within the first 10 minutes of the pageant that aired on national television.

The title of Miss America ultimately went to Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler with Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson coming in second and Miss New York Kaitlyn Monte coming in third. Kaeppeler, Thompson and Monte all won one of the preliminary rounds, Kaeppler and Thompson winning Talent and Monte winning Lifestyle and Fitness. The other three winners in the preliminary rounds were Miss Texas, Kendall Morris in Lifestyle and Fitness, Miss Hawaii Lauren Cheape in Talent and Olsen in Lifestyle and Fitness. Out of the six contestants who won preliminary rounds, Olsen and Cheape were the only women not to advance to the semi finals.

Now that Miss America is over, Olsen will continue her reign as Miss Utah until the fall when a new Miss Utah will be crowned.
