Student exhibition calls out to artists

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Up to three UVU students soon may have the unique opportunity to display their art in a very public fashion. The Provo City Court House plans on choosing up to 10 pieces of student work by each accepted student for an upcoming exhibition.

On display until January, artwork will be shown at the Provo City Court House Gallery. Art and Visual Communications Visiting Scholar Tawni Shuler, who is heading-up the project, said,  “The hope of this exhibition is to create an opportunity for students to exhibit their work off campus and connect with the larger community, as well as promote the great student artists and artwork being done here at UVU.”

All types of work are accepted, except three-dimensional pieces. All works submitted will be juried and chosen by a UVU committee. All entries must be submitted either in frames, or on ready-to-hang canvas stretcher, in standard sizes of 16 by 20 inches or 20 by 24 inches.

In order for work to be reviewed and considered by the committee, entries must be submitted to Tawni Shuler’s mailbox at the AVC department in GT- 535 no later than Thursday, Sept. 23 by 5 p.m.

Submissions must include all work on CD, saved as a JPEG; 300 DPI images with the longest dimension measuring 10 inches, labeled as yourname1.JPEG; typed image list that states the artist’s first name and last name, the artwork’s title, medium, price or NFS as well as the year and dimensions; and the artist’s contact information with name, e-mail and phone number.

Selected artists will be notified through e-mail by Sept. 27. The artwork will be on display for the public from Oct. 8, 2010 to Jan. 7, 2011.

“The students are excited by the opportunity to showcase their works in a venue off campus,” Shuler said.

Those interested in participating in this exhibition that have questions regarding the event can contact Shuler at [email protected] or by calling 801-863-6934.
