The UVU softball team kicked off their season at the Red Desert Classic in St. George on Feb. 12-13 playing Maine, San Jose State, Idaho State and UC Santa Barbara.

During the two day tournament the Wolverines picked up two wins and two losses, putting them 2-2 on the season.

On the first day of competition Utah Valley picked up a 10-8 win against Maine but took a 7-3 loss against San Jose State. The Wolverines picked up their last three runs on a home run by Kyli Flanary in the bottom of the seventh ultimately giving them the win.

Later that day, Utah Valley played San Jose State, falling short and handing San Jose State the 7-3 win. The Wolverines were up by 2 runs before San Jose State came in to score three runs in the third inning.

Utah Valley kept it close tying the game in the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough to match San Jose State’s three additional runs in the fifth and one final run in the sixth inning.

The next day the Wolverines picked up their second win of 10-4 against Idaho State, but dropped the second game of the day, 4-3, to Santa Barbara.

Utah Valley will be on the road again this weekend as they take on Cal State Bakersfield in a four-game series Feb. 27-28. They will then travel to compete in the Colorado State Invitational on March 5-7 where they will face in-state rival Utah State, as well as Colorado State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.

The Wolverines will not play at home until March 13 when they will play College of Idaho on Mstar Field.
