Soccer announces six signings for 2010

After leading his team to the inaugural Great West Conference Soccer Championship in November, Utah Valley University coach Brent Anderson has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent. The class includes five players from Utah and one from Washington.

Macken Brady (Cove, Utah), Jade Colebrook (Riverton, Utah), Haley Curtis (Yakima, Wash.), Lexi Dunn (Layton, Utah), Alexa Pulley (Sandy, Utah) and Kim Stratford (Springville, Utah) are the six players that will enter UVU in Fall, 2010.

“I am very pleased with the quality of this year’s recruiting class,” said Anderson, the GWC West Division Coach of the Year. “Not only are these high caliber student-athletes that will have a great impact on our program, they also possess character and values that will add to our positive team environment. I wish it were August. I’m very anxious to get these new recruits here and working with the team.”

UVU softball hoping for tournament bid

For the last six seasons, the possibility of playing in the NCAA Tournament was not an option for the Utah Valley University softball team because the University was making the unprecedented move up from junior college athletics to NCAA Div. I.

Now with that journey made complete by having become a full NCAA Div. I member last year, the Wolverines now have a shot at an automatic bid to the postseason softball tournament through their membership in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference.

“We are incredibly excited about it. There is no other way to put it,” UVU softball coach Todd Fairbourne said. “We are in a conference that is a good fit for us and we have the chance to make it to the postseason. Will we step in and knock off the powers? I don’t know. But we are in a situation right now where we can find out the areas in which we need to improve to get to the NCAA Tournament.”

In the PCSC preseason poll, the Wolverines were selected by the coaches to finish fourth in the Mountain Division.
