There is a lot of buzz surrounding the release of New Moon, the second movie in the Twilight series, based on the novels of the same name by Stephanie Meyer.
Events by Alice, an organization named after a character in the series of novels, is hosting The New Moon Experience Nov. 19-20 at the South Towne Expo Center to celebrate the Nov. 20 movie release.

“We expect to have between 3,000 and 5,000 fans attending this year’s event,” said Kirsten Wright, managing director of Events by Alice.

Wright said that Events by Alice hosted a similar event for the release of the first movie in the series that had a turnout of just under 1,000 fans. She expects that the excitement surrounding New Moon will increase the attendance dramatically.

“We will have each of the major scenes from the Twilight novels recreated at the event,” Wright said. “Anything associated with Twilight you will find at the New Moon Experience.”

Wright said there will also be video games, cake tasting, video clips, bingo, movie trivia games, muffin eating contests, Family Feud, T-shirt creation and costume contests. She added that these activities are just a small sampling of the activities that will go on.

Amber Smith, a fan of the books, said that she may attend this year’s event even though she didn’t like the first Twilight movie.

“If I go to The New Moon Experience, it will be because I love the books,” Smith said.
Currently the event has signed on about 50 vendors.

The New Moon Experience will also have fundraising activities and prize drawings to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charity founded to find a cure for childhood cancer.

There will be a silent auction for merchandise autographed by celebrities associated with the book and movie. All the proceeds from the auction and a portion of the proceeds from the event itself will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
