In auditions last fall, seven young musicians were hand-picked by the Utah Valley Symphony to perform this week at the Covey Center for the Arts for the Symphony’s annual Young Artists Concert.

The musicians, who range in age from nine to nineteen, will perform on piano, flute, cello, double bass, and viola.

The orchestra will open the program with Brahms’ lively, inventive, and somewhat comical “Academic Festival” Overture. Following the overture, the seven young musicians will perform, supported by the orchestra.

The chosen young musicians are Kerri Lawler, 19; Jaime Larsen, 17; Catherine Willey 16; Alexander Willey, 18; Anastasia Felt, 9; Abigail Richard,16 and Hannah Harkness, 14.
Respectively, they will be playing pieces by Chopin, Georges Hue, Gaspar Cassado, Karl von Dittersdorf, W.A. Mozart, Tomaso Antonio Vitali, and Saint-Saens.

Bryce Rytting, who has been a conductor for the UV Symphony for eleven years, will continue to conduct in this, the Symphony’s 50th season.

The concert will perform this Wednesday and Thursday, and will hold an open dress rehearsal on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Best dress is encouraged for all performances.

Students with ID can purchase $5 tickets for unsold seats ten minutes before the curtain opens for each concert.

The Symphony’s season will close at the end of April with two performances of Brahms’ “A German Requiem,” featuring the UVU Masterworks Chorale and Wasatch Chorale.
