Cross-country ran their fourth meet at home on Friday to come away with a huge victory and an amazing finish for both the men and women.

The Wolverines hosted the UVU Invitational with BYU, Weber State University, Utah University and Idaho State in attendance. The men finished in first place while the women finished in third.

“It went really well, it was nice to have that many teams come from all over,” said head Coach Scott Houle. The team had a great crowd on Friday as well. “The fan support was great and the course was nice.”

The men took off first. Runner Joshua McCabe, a freshman from Springville, led the pack of Wolverine men to finish in second place just seconds after the top finisher. “McCabe had a great finish. He came up from fifth to right behind the winner for a great finish,” Houle said.

Once again, star runner sophomore Jared Keller also had a great performance. He had a fantastic finish, placing fourth just behind teammate McCabe.

The women were led once again by top runner Krystal Harper, a freshman from Orem. “(Harper) had a good race and was consistent from start to finish,” Houle said.

Houle was very pleased with his team’s performance, explaining, “As a team, our goal was to make the gap between our number one runner and our number seven runner smaller. The gap improved, and we are continuing to improve as a team.”

The team will compete in the Great West Conference Championships on Nov. 1 here on campus. As they prepare, Houle says, “We will continue to practice hard. We’ll work on quicker stuff instead of longer stuff by cutting miles a little bit and making speed workouts a little bit quicker. We have all the endurance that we need, so we will work more on speed.”
