At most universities the idea of intramural sports means major sports such as basketball, football, and soccer. Here at UVU we have that and much, much more.

“Our events are designed with student engagement in mind,” said Bo Earls, director of intramurals and sport clubs.

UVU Intramurals offer everything from disc golf league night every Monday to four pie-eating contests a semester. The point is not only to create competition but also to create camaraderie and recreation.

“I guarantee we will have something that will intrigue you,” Earls said.

With no Greek life and no on-campus student housing at UVU it is tough to keep students on campus. That is the reason for the variety and amount of events.

Each year intramurals are responsible for approximately 50 events, in which about 2000 students participate. If you were to participate in these activities you are almost guaranteed to win a prize and help the community at the same time.

Recently intramurals held an event called “Quarters for a Cause.” More than 20 prizes were awarded at the event — prizes from t-shirts to Frisbees. This event also raised more than $100 for Sub for Santa.

Sub for Santa is a program that raises money to provide Christmas for families in need and it has made Christmas possible for more than 1600 families. The goal of UVU Intramurals is to raise at least $500 for Sub for Santa.

Some upcoming events are the Oktoberfest run/walk 5K Oct. 9, disc golf tournament Oct. 14 and Halloween run/walk 5K Oct. 30.

Quarters for Santa will be Nov. 19, which will raise money for Sub for Santa.
