Cinderella Bulldogs

In a monumental run the Fresno State Bulldogs pulled off the impossible by winning the College World as a fourth seed, and became the highest seeded team to win a championship in any sport. A four seed in the College World series would be comparable to a 15th or 16th seeded team winning the NCAA basketball tournament.

After dropping the first game in the final against Georgia, Fresno State rallied to beat the Bulldogs from the SEC 19-10 after trailing early. They rode that momentum into the final game and came away with a 6-1 win to clinch the national title.

NBA Draft loaded with freshman

For the first time in the history of the NBA Draft the first three players to be chosen were freshman. The Chicago Bulls selected Memphis freshman Derrick Rose with the first pick overall. Former Kansas State forward Michael Beasley became the second pick when the Miami Heat made him the second freshman taken. Rounding out the top three the Minnesota Timberwolves selected OJ Mayo to be the third straight freshman taken in the draft. The 2008 draft saw a record number of freshman selected.
