The first of what promises to be an annual Christmas tradition will commence Saturday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. outside the BYU Wilkinson Center.

"Christmas by Candlelight" is an Australian and New Zealand Christmas tradition where people gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by lighting candles, listening to live music, singing carols and enjoying hot chocolate and treats.

"This is a great way to bring the community together for a common cause," said Emma Tomberlin, a co-chair in organizing the event. The idea is to bridge the gap between UVSC and BYU students and involve every member of the community in celebrating the Christmas season.

"Residents of the Utah Valley are so diverse and this is really going to bring all the wonderful, unique aspects of the community together and unified in sharing the Christmas spirit," Tomberlin said.

Popular local musicians Mindy Gledhill, Weston Wride from Moosebutter, Noteworthy and many others will be performing at "Christmas by Candlelight." The event is free of charge and each member will receive a candle to light and Christmas treats. Parking will be available across the street at the BYU Law Building.
