The Board of Trustees took the first big step in making UVSC into a bona fide university by approving the first graduate program.

On July 1, 2008, when UVSC will officially make the switch to UVU, a master’s degree of education will tentatively be offered to 30 students, if the state board of regents approves it.

Some of what is expected in order for a student to be considered for the program is a 3.2 GPA in the last 60 credits of coursework and high scores on the Graduate Record Examination.

Though many may desire to be accepted into the program, only 20- to 30- students each year will be admitted.

In the program there are two different tracks a student could take: one in models of instructions, and the other in English as a second language.

To help working teachers earn their degrees, many classes will be offered at night, and more classes offered during the summer semesters.

The program is expected to take two years to complete.
If the board of regents approves the program, new faculty will be hired in the following years.

Other master’s degrees currently being developed are in nursing and business.
